The Work that Reconnects - a graphic project

These days I am seeing, also thanks to the algorithm, I suppose, infinite publications on the climate tragedies happening all around the world. The world is burning up in certain places, and getting flooded in others.

This provokes, naturally, feelings of fear, anger, sadness and guilt. And I see that these emotions are finally getting expressed. People are opening up to the pain they feel for the world, and even if it is painful, it may be exactly what we need to start acting collectively and go forth.

If you don’t know the work of Joanna Macy, the Work that Reconnects, I warmly invite you to go explore it, to gain strength and comfort in feeling and knowing that we are together in the pain we feel, that expressing it can crack our hearts open, and that from that anger, sadness and guilt, something more beautiful can emerge.

I know many of us activists (at different leves and with different intensity of activism) are thinking of what can we do, and that everything seems too hard to fix, but if we are together, we can find a way out, or many ways out!

It seems that we are just there…

This is the Spiral of the Work that Reconnects, a 4 step immersive process that can help participants to reconnect with themselves, with other people and with what with our environment.

I co-created these images with other volunteers and staff. It has definitely been one of my most satisfying collaborations.

Every image represents hours of work, done in a meditative state, thinking exclusively of the message they carry. This collaboration has helped me to practice:

🖌 Deep listening – to what is really needed (vs. what I want to draw)
🖌 Slowing down, doing one thing at a time
🖌 Enjoying drawing without rushing to finish
🖌 Finding joy in contributing to something bigger than myself
