Presencial or virtual graphic recording, that is the question.
There is more than one solution to explore when you are in need to integrate Graphic Recording to your event.
You can either have the person travel to the event venue, and work in the room with you - and that’s often necessary - or you can have the person connect and draw virtually.
This means, essentially, that the artist will join you online, and will still be illustrating the key ideas in real time, and visibly during the whole event. This can be especially interesting if the event is hybrid, or if your budget is limited. The main needs I have to produce great work are:
Good briefings to understand needs, expectations, agenda and topic
A great wifi connection on both of our sides, and tech people that will be there to help if something goes wrong (rarely happens)
Excellent audio so that I can hear clearly and all day
A Whatsapp communication channel with one person on the client side, to be always aligned and in touch.
Connecting virtually to Climate Kic Learning Festival
Some advantages for Virtual Graphic Recording:
The cost: you will not pay for traveling, hotels, materials, or food. So logistically can be much cheaper, depending on the location of the artist you have chosen.
The environmental benefit: by not having the person travel, you (we) all save on some CO2 and other emissions.
Inclusivity: as it´s visible at any time, both people in the room where the event takes place AND people following from the online streaming will have the same chances to enjoy the visual summary, no favourites!
Your favourite graphic recorder, everywhere! You don’t have to carry the person, but you can carry the value anywhere in the world, regardless of time zone. Because yes, we can work at night.
Global events often happen online, and virtual graphic recording will surely make a mark within a sea of Powerpoints!
How does it work:
The collaboration is essentially the same as for an in-person event:
Pre-event meetings and briefings with client, facilitator and/or moderator, during which we assess the need and the wishes of the client, to make sure that my participation brings the maximum value to the event.
Preparation of branded templates / extra images if desired.
Tech rehearsal, days in advance, to make sure that it will work smoothly. Includes connecting online 1 hour in advance, for check-in and alignment.
Live graphic recording, with option of continuos screen sharing, to allow participants to follow, or not, the evolving scribing.
Delivery of all artworks on the same day - in jpg.
One round of feedback and edits.
Follow-up meeting if desired.
